Ceramic Paint Coating: How to Do It Yourself Successfully

In terms of exterior painting, ceramic coating often last up to five times longer than conventional paint. Also, it helps protect your home’s exterior. A ceramic coating is applied in the same way as traditional exterior paint. That is why doing the job on your own requires patience and a good amount of preparation. You will need to right setup and quality tools to offer your home a beautiful facelift that improves its curb appeal while maintaining its siding’s integrity. Below are some tips to ensure a successful exterior painting with ceramic coating:

Take the Time to Prepare

Make sure to prepare your home’s exterior for the first layer of paint or ceramic coating. Clean the siding with a pressure washer first. Then, if the siding is dry, begin at the top of your home and work your way down. If you own a home built before 1978, ensure the exterior paint is tested by your local health department to identify if lead paint was used. If it was, you may have to hire an expert to remove it.

Prevent Stains

The nail heads underneath the paint are often the most common cause of home exterior stains. That is why you must apply a stain-resistant primer to every nail hole before you prime the entire house. This will prevent rust from bleeding through the new paint and stain the exterior.

Account for Weather

This is something you must do before you move on to priming and painting the entire house. Ensure rain won’t be expected for at least 24 hours and check the weather after every coat. Also, avoid windy days because wind can cause the paint or ceramic to dry too quickly. With ceramic paint coating, you must ensure the humidity is below 85% so the product will cure correctly.

As you start painting, work only on parts of the house that are out of direct sunlight. This will prevent premature peeling or quick-drying that can lead to obvious lap marks.

Reduce Dripping

Dripping can occur on the siding, door, or windows. But, you can prevent by not overloading your paintbrush or roller. Also, you need t keep the bucket within a few inches of the side of the house. Work directly over it for the first few strokes. But, if you don’t to worry about drippings and other issues associated with DIY painting, consider leaving the job to the experts. They have been doing it for many years, so they know exactly what to do.
